Excalibur Army and KNDS Deutschland Agree to Service Leopard 2 Tanks in Czechia

The Czech company Excalibur Army has inaugurated a new production facility in Sternberk, which will significantly expand its production capacity and create dozens of new jobs.

The event took place on September 19, 2025, with the participation of Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová and representatives of government and industry.

During the opening ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Excalibur Army and KNDS Deutschland for the maintenance and repair of Leopard 2 tanks operated by the Czech Army.

Vladimir Stulančák, CEO of Excalibur Army, called the opening a technical and symbolic milestone timed to coincide with the company’s 30th anniversary.

The new workshop is designed for the assembly of tracked and wheeled vehicles, including tanks, self-propelled artillery systems, bridge builders and specialized platforms. It is designed to employ up to 150 people in a two- or three-shift operation.

On August 12, the Czech Ministry of Defense approved the purchase of the latest German Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks.

The first stage involves the purchase of 44 battle tanks, which will be adapted to the needs of the Czech army, and will cost CZK 34.25 billion. Another CZK 5 billion will be allocated for inflation and exchange rate reserves.
