The Anglo-German company Hypersonica has successfully tested a prototype hypersonic missile developed in 9 months.
This was reported in a press release from the company.
The test flight took place at the Andøya Space Center in Norway. Hypersonica became the first European private defense company to achieve this technological milestone.
The missile prototype accelerated to a speed of over Mach 6 with a flight range of over 300 km. It took just over six months from project inception to launch.
Throughout the flight, including ascent and descent through the atmosphere, all systems operated normally. The effectiveness of the system has been confirmed at the subcomponent level at hypersonic speeds.
The test provided valuable data for the further design of high-speed strike systems and will expand the capabilities for analyzing enemy weapon profiles.
Hypersonica plans to complete the development of the hypersonic missile by 2029, following a phased approach with successive test flights.
Preparation for the first test included conceptual design, component procurement and integration, ground testing, as well as compliance with export control and flight safety requirements and test site organization.
The missile’s modular architecture allows for rapid upgrades and reduces costs by more than 80% compared to traditional approaches.
This approach will enable Europe to deploy hypersonic capabilities within the timeframe set out in the NATO and UK Hypersonic Frameworks for 2030, and to do so at a significantly lower cost.
