The EU and individual member states will continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary military support in even larger volumes.
This was stated by the High Representative of the EU on foreign and defense policy, Josep Borrell.
An informal meeting of EU defense ministers was held in Prague on August 29-30, and a two-day meeting of foreign ministers began there on Tuesday.
“The European Union stands united in support of Ukraine and the Member States remain ready to continue supporting [Ukraine] as long and as much as needed,” Borrell said.
He noted that this is about the flow of military support, which does not stop, but even increases.
EU assistance relates not only to military equipment, but also to the military personnel.
At the same time, specific decisions on the launch of the EU training mission haven’t yet been made.
Borrell reminded that there are many initiatives, and it’s needed to ensure their complementarity. Thus, all ministers agreed that it was necessary to determine legal operating parameters, the concept of a new mission and agreed to conduct preparatory work in consultation with the Ukrainian side.
“It is clear that we need to be quick and ambitious, [to] demonstrate added value, flexibility, once again based on the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the High Representative of the EU explained.
Oleksii Reznikov, who joined the meeting by videoconference, spoke about the most urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“We have to respond to these needs,” Borrell noted.
The European Union can organize sniper, sapper and officer training for the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of a new training mission.
