It is about the advisory assistance of the European Union mission to Ukraine in military affairs.

The Militarnyi informs about it.

The European Union approved a decision to establish an advisory military training mission in Ukraine. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba spoke about this following the meeting of the Council of EU Foreign Ministers in Brussels, LIGA.net reported.

“We have reached an agreement that the European Union will set up an advisory military training mission in Ukraine. This will be an important political signal to increase the presence of the European Union in Ukraine, to launch such cooperation in the military sphere,” Kuleba said.

The parameters of this mission and the period of its deployment will be clarified, but the decision has been reached in principle.

“We had been working with partners in the European Union for a long time, that such a mission appeared in Ukraine,” Kuleba stressed.

As reported earlier, the information that the European Union is considering the possibility of creating a new military training mission in Ukraine appeared in October last year.

This happened against the backdrop of the activity of Russian hybrid troops and the aggravation of hostilities in the Donbas.

A document from the European External Action Service stipulated that the establishment of such a mission would be an expression of solidarity with Ukraine, taking into account Russia’s military activity near the Ukraine’s borders and in the occupied territories.

At that time, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, as well as Poland, Romania and Slovakia insisted on establishing a military training mission.

In addition, it was reported that Sweden and Finland support this position.

The heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine also asked to establish an EU military training mission and sent a letter to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel at the end of July.
