European institutions and EU member states have announced a new military aid package for Ukraine for 2024.
Politico reported on this.
After a meeting of EU defense ministers, EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell announceв a €21 billion military aid package for Ukraine.
This assistance should help Ukraine purchase the necessary defense and military equipment to help it counter Russian aggression.
In addition, Borrell noted that Ukraine will receive only about half of the previously announced transfer of one million artillery shells by March, 2024.
Nevertheless, he noted that the European Union has great potential to increase production. He also noted that, despite the lower number of shells produced until March 2024, Ukraine will eventually receive more than a million artillery shells by the end of 2024.
“This is a work in progress, the whole machinery is working and member states are passing commands. Every day, it keeps evolving and increasing,” Borrell said.
Ukraine will get 524,000 shells by March, 2024.
Overall, the EU has sent €28 billion worth of military aid to Ukraine since the war started nearly two years ago.
At a summit that will be held on February 1, 2024, EU leaders will discuss a €50 billion package of financial assistance for Ukraine, alongside €5 billion for the European Peace Facility.
The European Peace Facility is an off-budget cash pot used to reimburse EU countries for weapons delivered to Ukraine.
As Militarnyi previously reported, the Netherlands allocates €122 million for shells, weapons, and cyber security for Ukraine.
