Moldova is the first country to sign a Security and Defence Partnership with the EU.

Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced this.

On behalf of Moldova, the document was signed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, and on behalf of the European Union, by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

“Moldova is the first country to sign a Security and Defence Partnership with the EU,” Borrell wrote.

This partnership will enhance the country’s resilience. It will allow it to jointly address common security challenges.

The partnership should also make joint engagement more effective and explore new areas of cooperation.

The partnership should function for all cooperation between Moldova and the EU.

This concerns the country’s resilience, cybersecurity, combating disinformation, assistance to the defense sector through the European Peace Instrument, and Moldova’s participation in EU crisis management missions.

The agreement is based on political commitments and will not have the status of an international treaty.

As previously reported, Moldova plans to expand intelligence sharing with the European Union, start joint military exercises, and join the joint arms procurement program.

These measures will be the most profound official step linking Moldova’s national defense with Western partners.

As previously reported, the National Army of Moldova will conduct mobilization exercises for reservists as part of a routine check of their combat readiness and skills.
