The Estonian court found three men guilty of supporting Russian aggression.

Harju County Court sentenced three men who purchased drones for the Russian military.

The court found that 43-year-old Vladimir with dual citizenship in full awareness of the Russian aggression against Ukraine publicly called to support Russia on VK social media platform on May 11. He organized a fundraiser to purchase drones for the Russian Armed Forces.

“In his post, the man asked for money to be transferred to his bank accounts for drone purchase. Vladimir bought three drones with the collected money and personal funds and tried to deliver those to the Russian Federation through the Koidula border crossing where he was detained,” the court said.

The court sentenced the man to one year in prison, four months of which must be served immediately. The other eight months are a conditional prison sentence with a 4-year probationary period.

The drones were confiscated. The convict must also pay €1,632.60 in procedural costs.

The Estonian court also charged two other men who, at Vladimir’s request, transferred money for the purchase of drones in order to support Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The court sentenced them to a five-month suspended sentence with a probationary period of one year and eight months. Also, one of the men must pay €1,224 in procedural costs, the other – in the amount of €1,191.60.

The media emphasize that supporting the aggression of a foreign state is punishable in the Republic of Estonia by imprisonment for up to 5 years.

Purchasing or funding equipment, such as drones, to be used in combat operations by the Russian army is considered aggression support in Estonia.

Because of the war in Ukraine, Estonia will revise its defense plans. Within the updated defense plans, Estonia has already made an agreement with Latvia to jointly purchase the new air defense systems.
