Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna urges Europe to step in and bridge the gap in military aid to Ukraine following the US decision to pause its support.

The Minister’s statement was published on the Estonian Foreign Ministry website.

“Europe must boost military aid to Ukraine to support its ongoing fight for a just and lasting peace,” said Tsahkna.

He highlighted that the Estonian government has already committed to a 25% increase in military aid to Ukraine this year, along with the urgent delivery of 10,000 artillery shells.

“Our decision demonstrates that swift and decisive actions can be taken to support Ukraine, and we urge all those who stand with Ukraine to urgently step up military aid,” the Estonian Foreign Minister emphasized.

Margus Tsahkna suggested that one way to secure additional funds for Ukraine is by utilizing Russia’s frozen assets.

With the majority of Russia’s frozen state assets held in Europe, Tsahkna emphasized Europe’s pivotal role in taking action and directing these resources to support Ukraine.

The Minister remains confident that claims regarding the lack of legal options to use Russia’s frozen assets are unfounded.

“Last week, I presented a discussion paper to my European partners, outlining a clear solution for utilizing these assets. A political decision on their use is necessary before the upcoming deadline for extending sanctions against Russia in June,” the Foreign Minister stated.

He also stressed that the aggressor, who bears sole responsibility for the war, must feel significant pressure, while the victim of aggression should receive strong support. Only through this approach can Russia be compelled to abandon its objectives and pave the way for lasting peace in Ukraine.

As previously reported, U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered a suspension of all military assistance to Ukraine.

Militarnyi previously reported that large companies in the EU defense sector are increasingly facing the problem of finding specialists with the necessary skills.
