Estonia will invest about half a billion euros in its military infrastructure over the next four years.

The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (RKIK) announced this, ERR reports.

These funds will be spent between 2025 and 2028 on various military infrastructure facilities.

In the first half of this year, Estonia has already invested €110 million in these needs.

These investments are in three main areas:

• new combat capabilities, i.e., mainly barracks, firing ranges, training grounds, and storage facilities for weapons systems;
• strategic stability – warehouses and storage facilities;
• investments related to the ability to receive allied troops, including defense facilities and general infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and ports.

The investment is made in cooperation with the EstMilMob military mobility project.

Currently, most of these projects are being implemented in the western and southeastern parts of Estonia, as well as in the city of Tartu.

In particular, a military base will be opened in Lithuania in September, significantly expanding the capacity to receive allied troops. The Lithuanian air base in Ämari will also complete the runway repair.

In addition, the headquarters building of the 2nd Infantry Brigade and the training building of the Defense Forces Academy will be opened in Lithuania.

RKIK noted that it will soon hold tenders for various services related to the planned investments, ranging from furniture purchases to taxi services.

Most of the contracts are signed with Estonian companies.

As previously reported, Estonia plans to start its own ammunition production no later than early next year. The ammunition production is to be set up on the territory of the military base of Ämari.
