Estonia is ready to deploy UK fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons on its territory.
This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Estonia Hanno Pevkur, answering the question of The Telegraph newspaper about the possible deployment of British F-35A fighters in the country.
“I am always ready. The door is always open for allies,” Pevkur said.
His statement came after the Estonian Ministry of Defense reported on September 19 that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets had violated Estonian airspace.
The incident occurred near the island of Vaindlo in the Gulf of Finland and lasted 12 minutes. NATO immediately responded by sending up F-35 fighter jets to intercept the Russian planes.
At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Estonian airspace was not violated, and the flight route allegedly ran “over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea.”
It should be noted that F-35 fighters are manufactured in the United States, which also controls the supply of the B61 nuclear bomb that can be installed on these aircraft.
As a reminder, the Alliance is on high alert after a large-scale invasion of Poland by Russian drones on September 10, forcing NATO to quickly send planes into the sky to shoot them down.
So NATO leaders moved on to consider rules of engagement after three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated Estonian airspace last week.
