Estonia will join Germany’s framework contract to supply ammunition to Ukraine.
The German Ministry of Defense reported on this.
“Ammunition remains a focus for Ukraine’s resilience. Estonia has decided to participate in the German framework contract for ammunition,” the statement outlines.
The Ministry reminded that the two countries had previously joined forces to support Ukraine.
Specifically, Germany supported Estonia with the supply of field howitzers with ammunition, two mobile field hospitals, and various vehicles.
Germany is also negotiating joint purchases of ammunition with the Netherlands and Denmark.
“Germany is ready to open its framework contracts to purchase ammunition for our partners, as promised earlier this year by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius,” the statement points out.
In early May, the EU Council approved a decision to provide assistance to Ukraine for joint purchases of ammunition and missiles.
The plan is to transfer 1 million shells to Ukraine.
On September 5, the European Defense Agency (EDA) signed the first contracts for the joint purchase of artillery shells for Ukraine.
EU members will buy shells for the most common howitzers: the French Caesar, Polish Krab, German Panzerhaubitze 2000, and Slovak Zuzana.
As previously reported, the United States is significantly increasing the production of 155 mm artillery shells amid large-scale military assistance to Ukraine.
