Production of Extended-Range Attack Missiles (ERAM) for Ukraine began in the spring of 2025.
This is stated in a report by the Program Office of the U.S. Air Force Armament Directorate, based at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
These are the very missiles that were recently approved for sale to Ukraine by the Donald Trump administration – a total of 3,350 units, under the condition of approved use.
ERAM aerial munitions are a new development within the program to create low-cost cruise missiles for the U.S. and Ukrainian Air Forces.
According to the report, work on the prototypes began in the fourth quarter (Q4) of the U.S. 2024 fiscal year.
According to the same report, production under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program started in the third quarter (Q3) of the 2025 U.S. fiscal year (April–June).
In the fourth quarter (Q4) of the 2025 fiscal year, production is set to begin for the United States as well.
According to The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources within the U.S. government, these missiles are expected to arrive in Ukraine in about six weeks as part of an $850 million aid package. European countries primarily fund the aid package.
The development and integration of the prototype lasted six months as part of Phase 1 of the program, from October 2024 to April 2025.
As part of Phase 2, experimental operation of the ERAM was launched in March 2025, including the integration of warheads and test flights on aircraft.
The testing program included several stages, among them:
In total: 7 full tests of the glide system or engine, 3 fixed-position tests, and 2 drop tests.
