Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has approved the Dzhura-Evac armored evacuation vehicle for use by the country’s Defense Forces, the ministry’s press office reported.

The vehicle, manufactured by a Ukrainian company, features a powerful diesel engine, a 4×4 drivetrain, and a manual transmission.

To enhance performance in off-road and rugged terrain, the chassis has been upgraded with reinforced front and rear suspension systems, off-road tires, and heavy-duty brakes.

The Dzhura-Evac has a modular design and accommodates up to six people, including the driver and a combat medic.

The vehicle offers ballistic protection against small arms fire, shrapnel, and engineering munitions.

According to the ministry, Dzhura-Evac is equipped with critical systems for casualty evacuation, including video surveillance, low-visibility lighting, counter-UAV measures, ventilation and air conditioning, and an automatic stretcher-loading mechanism.

Currently, Ukraine’s Defense Forces operate a range of evacuation platforms — wheeled or tracked armored vehicles, all-terrain transport, lightweight buggies and quad bikes, as well as robotic systems.

Depending on available resources and battlefield conditions, the most suitable evacuation method is selected.

The ministry believes that expanding the fleet of armored evacuation vehicles like Dzhura-Evac will improve the chances of saving wounded personnel.

The Dzhura Platform

The Dzhura is a light, 5-ton armored utility vehicle developed by Ukraine’s Praktika R&D and based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 chassis.

It is designed for low-risk tactical missions and is used by police and special operations units.

Its compact size and relatively low weight allow it to operate discreetly.

The vehicle is powered by a 200-horsepower diesel engine producing 430 Nm of torque.

According to its developers, the Land Cruiser 70 platform is known for its durable, low-maintenance engine with minimal electronics. Depending on the customer’s preference, it can be fitted with an automatic, semi-automatic, or manual gearbox.

The first Dzhura vehicles were delivered to Ukraine’s armed forces in September 2024.
