Strike drones targeted one of Russia’s largest oil refineries – the Kirishi Oil Refinery in the Leningrad region.
The Astra media outlet reported the attack on the facility.
The refinery was hit during the night of September 14, when the drones struck the ELOU-AT-6 crude oil distillation unit.
Data from NASA’s FIRMS (Fire Information for Resource Management System), which monitors thermal anomalies, indicates that a fire broke out at the facility at approximately 3:56 a.m.
It is worth noting that Kinef (Kirishinefteorgsintez) is one of Russia’s leading oil refineries in terms of processing volume, handling approximately 19.8 million tons of crude oil per year. The plant also specializes in the large-scale production of petroleum products – including gasoline, aviation fuel, and others.
The facility is located at coordinates 59.48523977599816, 32.06985196662434, approximately 790 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border.
This is not the first attack on the Kirishi Oil Refinery. On March 8, 2025, drones operated by the Ukrainian Defense Forces targeted the territory of Kirishynefteorgsintez, with one of the drones reportedly damaging a petroleum storage tank.
