South Korea is interested in the experience of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in using drones on the modern battlefield.
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine announced this.
The Republic of Korea is also closely monitoring the participation of the North Korean military in the war against Ukraine on the side of Russia.
During a meeting between Deputy Defence Minister Serhii Boiev and a Korean delegation led by National Assembly member Yoo Yong-won, the parties discussed cooperation and exchange of experience.
The Ministry of Defence stated that the Ukrainian defense industry was interested in cooperating with the Korean one.
“Your visit is important for the development of cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea. The Ukrainian defense industry is interested in cooperation with the Korean one. Together, we can improve our technologies and speed up the production of the necessary equipment,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.
Mr. Yoo Yong-won drew attention to the legislative restrictions in South Korea on arms imports.
At the same time, he suggested considering the possibility of holding a joint seminar of Ukrainian and Korean defense manufacturers.
Given that the DPRK, which is an adversary of the Republic of Korea, sends its military to Russia to participate in hostilities against Ukraine, its military is gaining experience in modern warfare.
In particular, they have become more aware of the importance of drones on the battlefield and are now using them more effectively. This was reported in February by Vadym Skibitskyi, a representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
Therefore, the experience of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the use of various types of drones, including strike drones, is advanced in the world and may be interesting for South Korean military.
The emergence of North Korea’s own strike drones, similar in design to the Israeli Hero kamikaze drone or the Russian Lancet drone, as well as others that visually resemble the Israeli Harop or Iranian Shahed-136, which are produced in Russia under the name Geran-2 and are actively used to strike Ukraine, may arouse the interest of the South Korean military in gaining experience from the Ukrainian Defense Forces in countering similar drones.
