Drone Hits Container Ship Aurelia After Departure From Novorossiysk

A drone struck the container ship Aurelia after it departed from the Russian port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea.

The attack occurred on January 18, when the vessel was approximately 80–90 nautical miles from the coast.

Photos showing the damage were published online. According to the images, the strike hit the ship’s starboard side, damaging several containers.

It is reported that the 16-member crew was not injured, and the container ship continued its voyage, arriving at the Turkish port of Samsun at around 2:30 p.m. local time.

Subsequently, the damaged containers were unloaded, and the vessel was thoroughly inspected to assess the extent of the damage.

The container ship Aurelia is owned by a Turkish shipowner and is operated under the flag of Cameroon.

The vessel was built in 1998 and has a length of approximately 100 meters and a beam of nearly 18 meters.

It is currently unknown who carried out the aerial drone attack on the container ship.

On January 13, a drone struck the deck of the tanker Delta Harmony, which was located near the Russian port of Novorossiysk.

Following the drone explosion on the tanker’s deck, a fire broke out in the area of the pipeline system.

The vessel had arrived in Russia to load oil from the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which transports mainly Kazakh crude oil.
