An international drone coalition, led by the United Kingdom in collaboration with Latvia, will supply Ukraine with around 35,000 interceptor drones to counter Russian Shahed drones.
The UK government announced this on October 14.
According to a statement on the government’s website, agreements with manufacturers are expected to be signed in the coming months.
The funding for the purchase will come from several countries that have joined the coalition.
“Interceptor drones are currently being tested on the battlefield, and the drone coalition is expected to soon finalize new contracts to supply additional equipment to Ukraine, including around 35,000 new interceptor systems over the next few months,” the UK government stated.
Previously, Luke Pollard, the UK Minister for Defense Procurement, shared plans for the United Kingdom to establish production of about 2,000 interceptor drones per month for Ukraine.
The interceptors are to be produced as part of a joint Ukrainian-British project called Octopus, which the UK government announced in September. The project is currently in the negotiation stage and may be implemented in the coming months.
