Strike drones targeted a railway electrical substation in Russia’s Volgograd region, a key element of the country’s rear military logistics network.
Astra reported the incident, citing regional governor Andrey Bocharov.
The attack disrupted power to a section of the railway near Zhutovo station, located in the vicinity of the settlement of Oktyabrsky.
A large fire broke out following the drone strike, which Governor Bocharov confirmed.
According to Governor Bocharov, specialists are currently working at the scene to eliminate the consequences of the falling drone “debris.”
“As a result of the drone debris falling, the power supply to the railway’s contact network in the Oktyabrsky district was disrupted,” Bocharov wrote.
It’s worth noting that this is not the first such attack on Russia’s railway infrastructure following a previous strike on a railway hub in the Rostov region.
These actions may be part of a broader effort to disrupt Russia’s logistical capabilities, which heavily rely on rail transport due to the country’s vast distances.
On July 21, strike drones targeted a key railway hub in the urban-type settlement of Kamenolomna, located in Russia’s Rostov region.
Kamenolomni is one of the major railway junctions in the southern corridor and holds significant strategic importance.
The station is located in southern Russia, along the route Rostov-on-Don – Taganrog – Donetsk, and plays an important role in the transportation of military equipment.
It is worth noting that Russia is currently restoring railway lines in the temporarily occupied territories, primarily in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
