In early 2026, the United States tried to send large shipments of weapons to protesters in Iran. However, the shipments were taken by Iraqi Kurdish groups instead.
U.S. President Donald Trump said this in an interview on Fox News, as reported by 9tv.
According to journalist Trey Yingst, Trump claimed that the U.S. had delivered the weapons through Kurdish intermediaries, who ultimately kept the supplies for themselves.
The unrest in Iran began on December 29, 2025, triggered by the collapse of the rial. On January 8, Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, reported the emergence of armed individuals among the demonstrators.
The Iranian regime accuses Israel and the United States of organizing the protests. According to opposition groups and human rights organizations, the death toll during the unrest has reached 25,000–30,000 people.
In early March, reports emerged that Kurdish armed groups had launched an offensive operation against Iran from the territory of Iraq.
Later, one of the military-political forces of Iraqi Kurdistan denied involvement in crossing the border into Iran.
