The cyber specialists of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine have successfully carried out an attack that paralyzed the Russian national payment system SBP.
Sources in the DIU shared this with Militarnyi. According to them, the attack was aimed at the infrastructure used to finance organizations that support aggression against Ukraine.
As a result of a large-scale DDOS attack on the SBP system and the TransTeleCom provider, a significant number of Russians lost the ability to make instant transfers and pay for purchases online.
Residents of Yekaterinburg complained en masse on social media about service disruptions, as people were unable to pay for transportation or fill up their cars at gas stations.
The cyberattack also led to interruptions in Internet access and interactive television. Hundreds of thousands of subscribers of local providers in different regions of the Russian Federation were left without communication.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the aftermath of the attack had a significant impact on the Russian economy.
“Estimated economic losses as a result of the DDOS attack on the SBP payment system amount to up to $30 million,” the DIU emphasized.
