The developer has presented Furia A2-C – a new, enlarged version of the Furia reconnaissance drone.
Artem Viyunnikov, co-founder of Athlon Avia, discussed it in an interview with dev.ua.
The new Furia is a tactical UAV designed to work together with artillery for reconnaissance and fire control.
The full specifications of the Furia A2-C have not been disclosed, but it is reported that the UAV will have an autonomy of almost six hours of flight.
The UAV has an increased internal volume compared to the original, which allows for the use of more equipment. In particular, the manufacturer notes plans to use modern GPS receivers, more powerful computers, and additional inertial positioning systems.
Optical navigation is planned to protect against electronic warfare and due to a more powerful computer. The UAVs will also be able to work in a network and act as repeaters.
It is reported that the new version of A2-C will be more expensive than the existing Furia, but it will be a difference of “a certain percentage,” not by many times. As an example, it is said that today, the Furia A1-CM configuration of three aircraft, five optical modules, including night thermal imaging optical modules, a ground station, antenna, and spare parts costs up to UAH 10 million.
The A2-C Fury prototype is currently undergoing factory testing. It is planned to launch mass production of this model by the end of the year.
The developer also shared that the current version of Furia will not disappear but will be transformed into a lightweight system. It will fit in a backpack and be controlled from a tablet. It will cover the tasks currently performed by large copters. It is also noted that it will be much cheaper than the current version of Furia.
On September 12, 2024, President Volodymyr Zelensky shared that Ukraine could double the production of drones, but needed funding from its allies.
“Today, Ukrainian factories are ready to double their production. Some private companies are even ready to produce five times more. They can, they are ready. We don’t have enough funds in the budget to do this. Therefore, we ask our partners to help us with financing,” Zelensky said.
The Head of State noted that he had raised this issue at the 24th meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format, which took place on September 6, 2024 in Germany.
