Turkey will build a second large Multi-Purpose Mission Ship (MPMS) for Malaysia.
The contract was signed with the Turkish shipbuilding company DESAN Shipyard as part of the expansion of cooperation between Ankara and Kuala Lumpur, according to the X account Turkish Century.
The second MPMS is valued at approximately $83.7 million (about RM350 million) and is intended for long-range maritime service and multidisciplinary operations.
In most official reports, the customer is the Malaysian Maritime Enterprise Authority (MMEA), not the navy.
The first MPMS is already under construction at the DESAN shipyards near Istanbul. Steel cutting took place in the summer of 2025.
The first ship is expected to be delivered in 2027-2028, after which it will join the Malaysian Navy.
According to Janes, the MPMS will be about 99 meters long, have a speed of more than 20 knots and an autonomy of up to 30 days.
The project envisages a modular architecture that allows for a quick change of equipment for patrol, SAR, medical or anti-piracy missions.
The program also involves Turkish defense companies, including ASELSAN and HAVELSAN, which will supply electronics and control systems.
As a reminder, Turkey has recently started construction of the first domestic submarine of the MİLDEN project.
