The government and the vast majority of Danish parliamentary parties agreed to increase military support for Ukraine by DKK 4.4 billion (about €590 million) in 2024.
The Ministry of Defense of Denmark announced this.
It is reported that the total amount of funds for Ukraine’s military assistance will amount to DKK 64.8 billion for the period 2023-28.
“Denmark has been one of the most active donor countries since the beginning of the war. We must continue to do so, so I am pleased that the overwhelming majority of parties in the Danish Parliament support increasing the military assistance fund for Ukraine by an additional DKK 4.4 billion in 2024. It is very important to show the Ukrainians that we support them in this serious situation,” said Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.
The parties to the agreement note that most of the funds already allocated for military assistance in 2024 have been used. Danish officials agree that there is a need for further military support for Ukraine this year.
The purpose of military assistance in 2023-2028 will continue to be to provide direct military assistance to Ukraine in the form of military equipment and training.
Danish assistance includes the purchase of equipment and weapons from Danish and foreign defense companies for transfer to Ukraine, financial donations, and cooperation with other countries to support Ukraine.
Danish officials do not rule out the possibility of direct purchases from the Ukrainian defense industry, provided that the necessary control mechanisms are in place.
Militarnyi previously reported that the Danish government had announced an additional military assistance package for Ukraine worth almost €300 million.
According to the report, the decision provides for the allocation of DKK 200 million for investments in the Ukrainian defense industry.
The 17th aid package is aimed at expanding defense-industrial cooperation with Ukraine, based on the growing need to strengthen and increase Ukrainian production of artillery shells, missiles, and drones.
Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen noted that in March, he visited several Ukrainian defense companies in Kyiv, and it became clear that there is great potential for future cooperation.
