Denmark has placed an order for four MQ-9B SkyGuardian reconnaissance drones to strengthen surveillance over the Arctic and North Atlantic regions.
Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) announced the purchase on its official website.
The project is funded through the Acceleration Fund (Accelerationsfonden) and follows political agreements already in place concerning security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic.
The drones are expected to be delivered between 2028 and 2029.
The MQ-9B SkyGuardian has a wingspan of approximately 24 meters and can remain airborne for over 40 hours, allowing for extended missions in remote areas.
“This is a game changer for Danish defence. Drones give us entirely new capabilities for monitoring, response, and intelligence sharing with our NATO partners,” Major General Klaus Kvist shared.
In addition to the drones, the contract includes ground control stations, personnel training, and maintenance services.
The Danish Defence Procurement Agency has also previously announced the acquisition of new coastal surveillance radars from the domestic defence firm Terma A/S.
