The Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the 330/110 kV Frunzenskaya substation and the 110 kV Donets substation in Russia’s Belgorod region.

This was reported by the local Telegram channel Pepel.

The Frunzenskaya substation, located near the village of Dragunskoye, is designed to receive 330 kV electricity from generating facilities — including nuclear and thermal power plants — and step it down to 110 kV for regional distribution.

Substations of this class also supply railway traction networks. If disabled, electric locomotive traffic is disrupted, forcing reliance on diesel locomotives to move rail cargo, including military trains.

The Donets substation is situated within the Belgorod CHP facility and supplies electricity to the city and surrounding areas.

If the Frunzenskaya substation is taken offline, the load is automatically redistributed to other nodes in the grid.

If those nodes are not designed to handle the additional capacity, automatic protection systems may activate, potentially leading to cascading outages at substations that were not directly hit.
