The Special forces of the Department of Active Operations of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine struck a Russian radar system that is part of the S-400 surface-to-air missile system in Crimea.

The press service of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine released footage of the operation.

On the night of August 28th, 2025, the operators of strike drones carried out an attack on the enemy’s 91N6 radar, which was on active duty. This radar is responsible for detection, tracking, and target designation for missile systems.

A fixed-wing drone hit the antenna array of the radar system, which is highly sensitive to damage. With high probability, the installation was rendered inoperative.

Disabling this radar station is part of an ongoing campaign to suppress air defenses in Crimea, overseen by the Prymary (Phantoms – Ed.) special unit.

Its operators use strike drones equipped with satellite communication systems, which has enabled them to hit targets at previously unreachable distances.

Earlier this month, the unit carried out a series of strikes against radar stations of the 3rd Radio-Technical Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces, which was based on the southern coast of the peninsula in the mountains of Ai-Petri.

In order to protect their sensitive equipment from Ukrainian drones, Russian forces hid it inside special radio-transparent domes, constructed back in Soviet times. However, the operators still managed to strike the Nebo-SVU, Podlet K-1, and the rare 98L6 Yenisei radars.

Initially misidentified, the 98L6 Yenisei radar turned out to be a cutting-edge Russian radar developed specifically for the next-generation S-500 surface-to-air missile system.

The main aim of these strikes is to create ‘blind corridors’ in the field of vision of Russian radars over the occupied peninsula, allowing Ukrainian long-range drones to operate.

Thanks to this, just over the past month, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine have carried out a series of raids during which up to six fighter jets were struck at the Saky air base.

In addition, earlier at the Kirovske military air base, Mi-8 and Mi-26 transport helicopters, as well as a Mi-28 attack helicopter, were hit – a fact later confirmed by satellite imagery.

The Special units of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine are also active in other areas of the Russian-Ukrainian war. For instance, last month, footage first appeared showing the combat operations of the Prymary (Phantoms – Ed.) special unit in the Donetsk region, where intelligence officers struck two S-300V missile launchers and three 48Ya6-K1 Podlet radars.
