Ukrainian FPV drones struck Russian supply trucks after flying 60 kilometers, the military said.
The operation was carried out by drone operators from the Ivan Franko Group unit — a notable achievement for small drones, which typically have a limited flight range.
The strikes took place near “The Republic of the Bridge” — position in front of Donetsk airport, an area reportedly used by Russian forces for equipment transfers and logistics.
To complete the mission, troops used FPV drones with 8- and 10-inch frames. The UAVs were supplied by volunteer Serhiy Sternenko.
The operators likely employed powerful signal repeaters that extended the drones’ control range and maintained stable video transmission over long distances.
Repeaters amplify the signal from a drone’s camera and transmit it to the pilot’s receiver, allowing control from tens of kilometers away.
Normally, FPV drones have limited range due to weak long-distance communication.
To address this, Ukrainian forces mount antennas on other drones, which maintain a stable communication link between the operator and the strike drone. In 2024, this approach enabled FPV drones to travel up to 20 kilometers to target Russian artillery.
