The United States and its allies shut down the decommissioned frigate “Rodney M. Davis” (FFG-60) with anti-ship missiles.
Twenty-six countries, 38 surface ships, 4 submarines, more than 30 unmanned systems, about 170 aircraft, and more than 25,000 people participate in RIMPAC 2022 exercise in the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California.
“Rim of the Pacific 2022” is the world’s largest international maritime exercise.
Units from Australia, Canada, Malaysia and the United States participated in the sinking exercises of the “Rodney M. Davis” to improve their skills to destroy surface targets.
Live fire activities provide realistic training that improves the ability of partner countries to plan, communicate, and conduct complex maritime operations.
The “FFG 60” frigate was sunk by the joint efforts of the US Navy, Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Malaysian Navy and Royal Australian Navy.
Before transporting a ship for training firing, it is thoroughly cleaned, including the removal of all polychlorinated biphenyls, transformers and capacitors, debris and all other harmful substances.
According to the Royal Malaysian Navy, the event marked the first time the country’s ship conducted a missile launch outside Malaysian waters.
The corvette launched a similar Exocet MM40 Block 2 rocket in May 2022.
Exocet missiles are anti-ship missiles that exist in the surface and air-launched versions. The rocket manufacturer is MBDA.
In addition to the inertial guidance system, the MM40 Block 2 upgrade received improved homing and a GPS system.
Also, the new radar altimeter provides a lower flight pattern above the sea surface than before.
