Denmark has for the first time identified the United States as a potential threat to its national security, citing Donald Trump’s renewed interest in acquiring Greenland.
This assessment comes from the annual report of the Danish Defense Intelligence Service, released on Wednesday and reported by Bloomberg.
The report highlights a significant shift in Washington’s geopolitical behavior following Trump’s second election as President of the United States.
Officials from the agency note that America is increasingly prioritizing its own interests exclusively, moving away from traditional partnership commitments.
According to them, the United States is now using its economic and technological power as a tool of influence, applied not only to competitors but also to its allies and NATO partners.
“The United States is using economic power, including threats of high tariffs, to impose its will and no longer rules out the use of military force, even against allies,” the report states.
The intelligence officers also point to the United States’ growing interest in Greenland, a territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, as a result of intensifying great-power competition in the Arctic.
Meanwhile, the Danish military intelligence report states that the primary risks to national security are Russia and China.
As previously reported, the U.S. State Department has approved the sale to Denmark of the IBCS combat management system and two of the newest Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC) Increment 2 air-defense systems, which have not yet been fully deployed in the U.S. Army, for a total of $3 billion.
