The Czech ammunition initiative for Ukraine has enough resources to provide monthly supplies until September 2025.
Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky stated this at the NATO summit in Brussels, according to the European Pravda media.
“First of all, with regard to the Czech initiative, it is important that we were able to secure funding, and now this initiative has enough resources to provide Ukraine with monthly ammunition until September,” he said.
Lipavsky emphasized that the initiative has received sufficient funding thanks to contributions from Canada, Norway, the Netherlands, and Denmark.
“This initiative has reduced the effectiveness of Russian artillery by 500%. We have reduced the ratio (of the number of shells in the armed forces of Ukraine and Russia – ed.) from 1 to 10 to 1 to 2, and this is very important,” the Czech Foreign Minister stated.
According to him, in 2024, the Czech industry supplied 1.5 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine, half a million of which were 155-mm and 152-mm ammunition.
“We must deliver this material to Ukraine so that it can defend itself against Putin’s imperial war of aggression,” Lipavsky concluded.
At the end of March, it was reported that Ukraine could receive the same amount of ammunition in 2025 as last year as part of the Czech ammunition supply initiative.
In February 2024, Czech President Petr Pavel announced the possibility of purchasing approximately 800,000 rounds of ammunition for Ukraine.
It was about 500,000 155 mm and 300,000 122 mm caliber shells from third countries. Later, the Czech Republic found more ammunition but did not disclose the details.
The first deliveries under this initiative took place in June 2024. In July and August, Ukraine received 50,000 shells, and from September to the end of the year, monthly deliveries were to be between 80,000 and 100,000 units.
In July, the Foreign Minister stated that the country was already looking for funds to purchase ammunition for Ukraine in 2025.
In August, Czech Defense Minister Jana Černohová shared that the initiative would attract revenues from Russian assets frozen in the EU. This will allow for the purchase of hundreds of thousands more rounds of ammunition.
