A recent survey in Poland has shown that while the majority of citizens support the idea of compulsory military training, many are reluctant to take part in it themselves.

According to a report by Gazeta Wyborcza, a survey conducted by SW Research revealed that less than 40% of respondents had not been willing to participate in the training.

When asked whether they supported compulsory military training for all adult men, 56.1% of those surveyed answered in the affirmative.

26.2% expressed opposition to compulsory military training, while 17.7% were undecided on the matter.

The survey also shows that older citizens are more likely to support military service.

In particular, 66.9% of respondents over the age of 50 support compulsory training, with only 16.8% opposing it.

Among the youngest respondents, those under 24, only 35% answered “yes,” while 38.7% expressed opposition to the military training.

The next question in the survey was: “Would you like to participate in military training?” Only 39.8% answered affirmatively.

Among all respondents, 43% answered “no,” and 17.2% were undecided. The highest level of interest in participating in the training (45%) was found in the 35-49 age group.

The final question was: “Do you know how to behave in the event of a threat/attack from the enemy?” Only 33.1% of respondents answered “yes,” while 35.3% did not know how to act. The response “hard to say” was selected by 31.6%.

In early March, Donald Tusk announced the introduction of voluntary military training, open to all adult men.

Discussions are currently ongoing to ensure the military training is as accessible as possible and to find the most effective ways to encourage participation. Polish authorities are also hopeful that, upon completing the training, some individuals may choose to pursue a career in the military. Currently, the Polish army is made up of 206,000 personnel.
