In the Lyman area, Ukrainian officers conducted a sweep of buildings to remove Russian military personnel who had infiltrated the city.
The Third Army Corps reported that the enemy group consisted of three occupiers.
The commander, deputy chief of staff, and platoon commander of the 3rd Mechanized Battalion of the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade decided on their own to eliminate them.
“After receiving intelligence about the enemy’s infiltration, the fighters with the call signs Granat, Pyatnadtsat, and Orel took preemptive action and attacked the enemy’s position,” the corps reported.
The Russian military had set up in a basement. They installed an external antenna to communicate with their command.
The occupiers had four ammunition magazines, thermobaric grenades, thermal imaging cloaks, power banks, radios, and a minimal supply of provisions.
Such groups are accompanied by reconnaissance drones and later provided with necessary supplies using unmanned aerial vehicles.
The enemy’s plan was that if they managed to hold out for a day or more, reinforcements would arrive, allowing them to consolidate their positions and continue advancing.
“The enemy no longer storms positions as before, but tries to get behind them to sow panic and force Ukrainian frontline units to retreat,” the military notes.
The assault by Ukrainian officers was coordinated with the help of drones. The soldiers engaged in a firefight, after which the occupiers decided to surrender.
“In our area, we have learned to counter infiltrated enemies. Constant patrolling and rapid clearance teams are yielding results,” the unit adds.
A Russian soldier who signed a contract in 2023 was taken prisoner by the Ukrainians. He had previously been imprisoned and was trying to use the war against Ukraine to “write off” his criminal cases.
