Thanks to the We Are Here to Live 2.0 project, four companies of engineering unmanned systems have been created in the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will strengthen Ukrainian troops on the front lines.

Militarnyi reported on this.

As part of the project, the Come Back Alive Foundation provided four units of the Support Forces with equipment sets consisting of Ukrainian-made ground robotic systems, vehicles, and drones. The recipients were the 808th and 70th Support Brigades, the 49th Brigade, and the 47th Engineering Brigade.

Each company equipment set consists of:

  • 8 TerMIT ground drone in logistics and demining versions;
  • 16 Targan unmanned ground robotic system;
  • 4 Vampire bomber drones with thermal imaging cameras;
  • Mavic 3 drones;
  • 7 SUVs with an open luggage compartment;
  • A mobile workshop for maintenance and repairs.

In addition, the military also received 100 radios, radio-electronic jamming stations for each off-road vehicle, repeaters for reliable drone operation in challenging conditions, and other related equipment.

The composition of such a set and the selection of equipment were developed based on the requests of the engineers of the Support Forces and the expertise of the Come Back Alive Foundation. After receiving the equipment, it will be placed into the inventory of the military units, and any future losses will be restored at the expense of the state. In this way, the Foundation helps the military build a new ecosystem and capabilities.

The future operators of the transferred equipment told Militarnyi that the companies would be deployed with crews of four people: an operator of a ground robotic system, an operator of a reconnaissance drone, an explosives specialist and a car driver.

“One crew can operate two TerMIT drones at once, transporting one in the truck bed and another in the trailer. This could be one logistics drone and one for demining. This way, we can stay mobile and as close to the front line as possible,” says Oleh, a staff sergeant of the unmanned systems service of the 70th Support Brigade.

He added that the foundation had provided the unit with portable antennas to enable operation from protected positions and avoid the risk of being targeted after being detected by enemy electronic reconnaissance. The provided relays for UAVs will ensure reliable communication with drones in hard-to-reach areas.

These are the first unmanned systems of this class for the brigade. Previously, it only operated heavy unmanned systems with mine-clearing equipment, which, due to their size, could not be used on the front lines. Therefore, the transferred equipment will allow the soldiers to support frontline fighters much more effectively and safely.

The project authors from the Come Back Alive Foundation explained that the selection of unmanned systems had been based on their combat usage experience on the front lines and the needs of the Support Forces command. Specifically, one of the criteria was the ability to transport the systems using a standard pickup truck — the 160-kilogram TerMIT drone fits perfectly into the cargo area of the purchased vehicles and can independently drive into it using a ramp.

The price-quality ratio was not the last criterion: one TerMIT drone costs about UAH 420 000 depending on the configuration, while the smaller Targan costs UAH 42 000 per unit.

The Foundation emphasizes the inclusion of a mobile maintenance workshop in each company, based on a truck, highlighting the importance of logistics and proper support for the transferred equipment to ensure its constant high combat readiness. This includes servicing both the drones and the vehicles themselves. For this purpose, they are equipped with all necessary tools, including a welding machine, a winch for heavy loads such as engines, and a generator to power all of this in field conditions.
