The SSU detained an agent of the Russian special services who was gathered intelligence on Ukrainian Defense Forces in Mykolaiv.

The press service of the Security Service of Ukraine reported on this.

Russians were interested in locations of military hospitals and other medical facilities where Ukrainian defenders were treated and rehabilitated.

According to the SSU, the Russian agent also tried to identify locations of combat units of Armed Forces of Ukraine and find out about the weapons they had.

“In addition, the Russian agent “drew” for aggressor schemes of defense points near key bridges that might be used for transportation of military equipment of Ukrainian Defense Forces,” the statement said.

Invaders expected to obtain intelligence to prepare air strikes on the military infrastructure of the regional center.

According to the investigation, the enemy agent was an employee of a local utility company.

“It is known that he had come to the attention of invaders because of his pro-Kremlin views, which he had published on social media. Because of this, a representative of the Russian special services contacted him remotely and offered to cooperate in the war against Ukraine,” the SSU said.

To fulfill his tasks, the man traveled around Mykolaiv in his own car and covertly recorded locations of the objects identified by Russians.

Then he marked the information on electronic maps that he reported in an anonymous chat to his Russian curator.

During the searches in the detainee’s house, two mobile phones were seized that he used in conducting reconnaissance and subversive activities in favor of Russia.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators served the suspect a notice of suspicion. He is currently in custody. The detainee faces 12 years in prison.
