A large batch of Turkish Cobra II armored vehicles was spotted in Romania.
Footage of the transport of these vehicles by rail was released on social media.
Previously, there was no public information on the fact that the Romanian Ministry of Defense ordered new Turkish armored vehicles.
It is possible that vehicles passing through Romania are transiting to another country.
The Cobra II with a 4×4 wheel arrangement was introduced in Turkey in 2021.
The Cobra II design is standard: the engine is in the front, the crew in the middle and the landing compartment in the rear.
The armored vehicle belongs to MRAP-type, that is, it has high landmine and ballistic protection.
The new product from the Turkish Otokar company has a modular design and, depending on the tasks, can change the configuration.
The Cobra II is capable of transporting up to 11 soldiers in various layout options, which can be made at the request of the customer for 3 or 5 doors.
It is possible to install combat modules or turrets for machine guns, as well as internal space to accommodate a variety of equipment.
For the first time, the Cobra II prototype was presented at IDEF 2013, and in 2018, the combat vehicle participated in EFES exercises.
The previous version had smaller dimensions and used suspension elements of the American HMMWV. Nevertheless, Cobra is mounted on a full-metal hull instead of a frame. Development of the Otokar Cobra continued into the 1990s. Since then, several thousand units of armored vehicles have been manufactured in different versions.
