Ukrainian special services were likely behind a series of drone strikes and a ground operation directed against a Wagner-backed militia in Sudan.
CNN reported on this based on the results of its own investigation.
The publication refers to a conversation with a Ukrainian military source, who described the operation as the work of a “non-Sudanese military.” When pressed on whether Ukraine was behind the attacks, the source would only note that “Ukrainian special services were likely responsible.”
According to journalists, the operation involved a series of attacks on the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which is believed to be receiving assistance from the Wagner PMC in its fight against the Sudanese military for control of the country.
The publication obtained a video from a body-worn camera that captured an episode of the ground operation involving well-equipped soldiers with night vision devices and thermal imagers. CNN notes that this is not typical for either of the parties to the local conflict.
An aerial shot of the troops advancing on the building was geolocated to one of Omdurman’s districts.
Another uncharacteristic feature of recent events has been the use of FPV drones, which became widespread during the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Six drone strikes targeted pickup trucks driving on the Shambat bridge. Eight other attacks were aimed at parked vehicles, buildings, and armed men in Omdurman and the western suburb of Ombada.

The video with the monitor of the drone controller captured text in English and Ukrainian, including the word “Зупинити,” or “Stop.”
The drone operator, who appears to be foreign, can also be seen in the controller’s reflection, but the operator is wearing a balaclava and is not identifiable.
Russia and its proxy troops, the Wagner PMC, were directly involved in the coup d’état in Sudan, supporting Hemedti and his fighters in the conflict.
According to some reports, Russian mercenaries supply about 90% of all weapons for them. In particular, CNN reported that the Wagner PMC supplied the Rapid Response Forces with surface-to-air missiles.
