China has significantly increased its missile production over the past five years amid tensions with the United States.

This is stated in a CNN study.

The channel’s journalists analyzed satellite images, maps, and government documents.

According to the analysis, since 2020, the country has significantly expanded dozens of its military missile facilities. With the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine in 2022, this work doubled.

Thus strengthening its ability to potentially deter the US military and consolidating its dominance in the region.

According to CNN, more than 60% of the 136 facilities related to the production of missiles and China’s nuclear arsenal show signs of expansion.

Satellite imagery shows that factories and research and testing centers have increased their area by more than 2 million square meters between 2020 and 2025.

New buildings, bunkers, and mounds have been recorded at the sites, indicating weapons development. In some cases, parts of missiles can even be seen in the images. Some factories are located in cities, close to residential areas, while others are located in remote valleys away from civilians.

Journalists investigated 99 missile production facilities in China and found that 65 of them have expanded by building space. Expansion over the past five years has also been recorded at 22 of China’s 37 military bases.

This is the case, for example, of a facility in Beijing that has expanded by almost 50% since 2020, and is engaged in the production of DF-26 medium-range solid-fuel ballistic missiles that are capable of attacking US bases in the region.

According to CNN, China is building up its nuclear weapons arsenal faster than any other country, increasing it by about 100 new warheads annually since 2023.

Weapons experts believe that this buildup could play a crucial role in a potential Chinese attempt to seize Taiwan by force. China’s modern missile systems are aimed at deterring the United States from possible intervention in the event of a conflict in the region.
