China Developed Next Generation Tank and Armored Vehicles

The latest models of Chinese armored vehicles have been delivered to Beijing and will be shown for the first time at a military parade. Among them are a new tank, armored personnel carrier and infantry fighting vehicle.

An armor analyst at Btvt noted that Chinese engineers went their own way in creating the tank. They did not follow the global trend of developing heavy vehicles weighing more than 60 tons with a powerful gun and excessive armor.

On the contrary, the developers kept the tank’s compact dimensions and even reduced its weight. This allows the new tank to be positioned as a mass-produced, relatively inexpensive and mobile vehicle.

The weight of the demonstrated tank is approximately 35-40 tons.

It is equipped with a 1500 hp hybrid power unit that combines a diesel engine, batteries and two electric motors with peak power. This increases the range.

The maximum speed of the vehicle reaches 84 km/h, and 40-60 km/h when driving on rough terrain.

The tank is armed with a 105-mm cannon. Although the caliber is smaller than modern 120-125 mm models, the initial velocity of an armor-piercing sub-caliber projectile is V0=1706 m/s. This makes it comparable in terms of kinetic energy to more powerful systems.

In addition to the tank, a new airborne combat vehicle is also being prepared for the parade.

The armored personnel carrier received a layout with an amphibious compartment in the stern. It is armed with a new gun instead of the outdated 2A72, has improved armor with ceramic elements and an active defense system.

A next generation infantry fighting vehicle will also be presented. The new IFV is equipped with an automatic 30-35 mm cannon, which increases its firepower.

Thus, at the parade in Beijing, China will demonstrate a reflection of its own vision of the development of armored vehicles for modern warfare.
