China has created its own copy of the Boxer wheeled armored personnel carrier, which is in service with several NATO countries.
The Defence Blog reported on this.
Images of the new armored vehicle appeared in the Chinese segment of the Internet.
Social media immediately noticed the similarity of the layout and design of the Chinese armored personnel carrier to the German-Dutch Boxer 8×8 platform.
The APC was photographed while driving in the Baotou industrial zone in the Inner Mongolia region of northern China. A number of defense enterprises are located there.
While the exact date of the sighting remains unknown, observers note that images of the vehicle were already seen in the same area about six months ago.
The Chinese version has a V-shaped hull, modular structure and armored driver’s cab, as well as an extended wheelbase and interior space. All this corresponds to the design of the Boxer APC, which is produced under the auspices of ARTEC, a joint venture between KNDS Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG and Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH (RLS).
At present, it is believed that the vehicle is not intended for use in the People’s Liberation Army of China, but is primarily intended for promotion on the foreign market.
Other sources suggest that the vehicle could serve as a modular test platform for weapons, including combat modules compatible with Boxer variants operated by international customers, the Defense Blog noted.
Although the appearance of the Chinese vehicle is very similar to the Boxer APC, the internal systems, level of protection and powertrain remain unknown.
There is currently no official designation and it is not known who is its developer and manufacturer.
The media notes that the lack of markings or company logos on the available images indicates that the vehicle remains at the prototype or early pre-production stage.
