The United States will soon officially notify Ukraine of its permission to use ATACMS short-range ballistic missiles inside Russia.
The War Zone reported on this with reference to the House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman.
Currently, the U.S. government is expected to officially announce the decision, which will allow Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles inside Russia.
Blinken, along with his counterpart from the UK, Foreign Secretary David Lammy, is to visit Kyiv to officially inform President Zelensky.
“I talked to Blinken two days ago, and he is traveling with his counterpart from the UK to Kyiv to basically tell them that they will allow them to hit Russia with ATACMS,” Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, stated.
As previously reported, as of now, the Biden administration has banned Ukraine from using U.S. ballistic missiles against Russia.
Despite the ban, many US government officials are dissatisfied with this decision and constantly appeal it so that Ukraine can be granted such a permit.
In addition, the issue of authorizing the use of British Storm Shadow cruise missiles also depends on the political will of the United States, as the two countries are constantly coordinating their actions to avoid escalation.
“We are providing military assistance to support Ukraine’s clear right to self-defense against Russia’s illegal attacks in accordance with international humanitarian law. We clearly understand that the equipment provided by the UK is intended to protect Ukraine,” the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said.
If permission is granted to use ATACMS ballistic missiles on Russian territory, Ukraine will be able to strike deep into the territory for more than 300 km, which will undermine Russia’s ability to deploy troops near the border and at short distances from it.
Militarnyi previously reported on U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirming that the Russians have already received ballistic missiles made in Iran.
In addition, according to Blinken, on Friday, September 13, US President Joe Biden will meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss allowing Ukraine to strike deep into Russia with long-range weapons.
