The Canadian Armed Forces soldiers partner with Polish and Norwegian Armed Forces and are training Ukrainian soldiers in Poland.
The Canadian Armed Forces reported this on their Twitter page.
It is noted that the training takes place under Operation UNIFIER.
“Canadian Armed Forces soldiers partner with Polish and Norwegian Armed Forces in Op UNIFIER to instruct Ukrainian recruits in Leopard tank fundamentals in south-western Poland,” the statement reads.
At the beginning of February, the first Canadian Leopard 2A4 main battle tank, intended for transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, arrived in Poland. He was flown in with a C-17 military transport aircraft from Halifax.
In total, Canada is transferring 4 tanks to Ukraine. They are ready to be transferred to the battlefield, but first, the Ukrainian military must undergo training to effectively use the new weapons.
Along with the tanks, Canada is providing Ukraine with spare parts and ammunition for this equipment.
As previously reported, Ukrainian servicemen undergo training in Germany. They are mastering German Leopard 2A6 and Marder infantry fighting vehicles.
The day before, a video showing Ukrainian soldiers firing the first shot with a tank was released.
Previously, Spain confirmed that it will transfer 6 Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine. At the same time, Margarita Robles, Spanish Minister of Defence, noted that there could be more tanks if necessary and that allied countries would agree to it.
