Canada will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package, which will include assault rifles and ammunition for them.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced this.
He highlighted that the shipment will include a large number of weapons from Colt Canada. According to him, the company will send 21,000 assault rifles, 38 machine guns, and over 2.4 million cartridges to Ukraine.
Colt Canada weapons have already been spotted in use by the Defense Forces of Ukraine. The assault rifles of this Canadian company first appeared in the hands of Ukrainian servicemen in May.
S7A1 assault rifles became quite common in the units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine and were spotted with the Belarusian Kastus-Kalinouski-Regiment, the International Legion, National Guard of Ukraine units, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as among the SOF soldiers.
The C7 assault rifle is a modified version of the American Colt M16A1E1 rifle, which is manufactured under license by the Canadian company DIEMACO, now called Colt Canada.
Canadian C8 carbines were also spotted in the hands of Ukrainian soldiers – they are copies of the American Colt M4A1 assault rifles, which once became a shortened version of the Colt M16A4.
The Prime Minister of Canada did not specify the model of the machine guns that should arrive in Ukraine as part of the military aid, but it is known that the Colt Canada manufactures C6 and C6A1 machine guns.
The C6 is a Canadian 7.62×51mm machine gun, a copy of the Belgian FN MAG machine gun.
The C6A1 began replacing the base version of the C6 machine gun in Canada in September 2018. It received a new polymer stock, Picatinny rails, and an adjustable gas block.
