Canada will purchase and send Ukraine 20,000 shells of 155mm caliber.
This was reported by the Minister of National Defense of Canada Anita Anand.
Defense Minister Anita Anand announced that the Canadian government will spend almost 100 million dollars to purchase 155mm ammunition of the NATO standard from the United States.
Anand says that this is the ammunition that the Ukrainian government asked its allies for.
According to her, these are shells of NATO standard artillery caliber and are compatible with artillery guns provided to Ukraine by Canada and other countries.
“Canada and Ukraine are more than close partners. We are family,” said Ms. Anand during a visit to a Ukrainian cultural center in Victoria, British Columbia.
In April, Canada sent M777 howitzers to Ukraine, part of military equipment worth more than $130 million, which Canada gave as a gift after Russia launched an unprovoked attack on Ukraine in February.
Recently, Canadian soldiers trained Ukrainians to handle large-caliber howitzers outside Ukraine in a country that Ottawa does not name for security reasons.
The new ammunition cost is $98 million, this is part of the $500 million in military aid that Canada has allocated to Ukraine.
She added that Ottawa is now accelerating the delivery of everything required to Ukraine.
Recall that in April it became known that Canada will hand over high-precision long-range shells “Excalibur” for 155-mm howitzers to Ukraine.
Also recently, the Ukrainian Defense Force received new armored vehicles “Senator APC.” from Canada.
