Canada will provide a financial package for the production of drones by the Ukrainian defense industry.
This was reported on the official website of the Government of Canada.
During his participation in the 21st meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG), Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair announced that Ukraine would receive additional military assistance to purchase its own drones.
First of all, Canada will allocate $3 million for the production of drones in Ukraine, which will be transferred for use to the Defense Forces.
It should be noted that this is the first time that Canada has made a direct contribution to the production of military drones in Ukraine.
The report also states that this donation will be made in cooperation with the Government of the United Kingdom.
In addition, Blair confirmed his intentions to finance the Czech initiative to purchase shells, for which Canada has allocated an additional $13 million.
Last time, the Canadian government allocated $40 million for the purchase of artillery shells under the Czech initiative.
In addition, the minister said that the number of UAVs from Teledyne FLIR will be increased to 100 units, bringing the total contribution to the procurement of SkyRanger drones to 900 units.
Drone transfers are scheduled to begin in May 2024.
Militarnyi previously reported that Canada will start transferring 450 SkyRanger multi-purpose unmanned aerial vehicles to Ukraine in the summer.
According to the agency, at an extraordinary meeting of the “Drone Coalition” leadership group, Ukraine informed its partners “about the situation on the battlefield and the urgent need to repel enemy attacks.”
