Canada will provide Ukraine with a new military assistance package, which will include 25 LAV III armored personnel carriers, F-16 simulators and ammunition.

Suspilne reported on this with reference to a speech by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the Support Ukraine Summit held in Kyiv today.

He added that the assistance was in addition to millions of additional components of ammunition, drones and first aid kits.

“We’re also distributing the first tranche of $5 billion in aid to Ukraine, funded by the proceeds of frozen Russian assets, along with a grant to support Ukraine’s energy security,” Trudeau said.

Ukraine will also receive four F-16 flight simulators to improve pilots’ skills in piloting the aircraft and maintaining their qualifications.

As for the LAV III infantry fighting vehicles, these vehicles are no longer in production and will be supplied from the army.

They will generally be familiar to the Ukrainian Defense Forces, as they are a licensed modified copy of the Swiss Piranha III, and the LAV III itself was the basis for the American Stryker armored personnel carrier.

In addition, Ukraine is already using Canadian LAV 6.0 ACSV armored personnel carriers, which are also to be supplied to the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

The LAV III infantry fighting vehicle is armed with a 25 mm Bushmaster cannon that uses standardized ammunition with the US Bradley. It has an 8×8 wheelbase and high ballistic protection against 14.5 mm and 30 mm heavy machine guns in the frontal projection.

Militarnyi previously reported that the Canadian government would transfer two more flight simulators to Ukraine to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s pilot training and skills maintenance.

Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence, made a corresponding statement during the Ramstein-format Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting.

Canada doubled the number of simulators transferred for the needs of the Ukrainian Air Force, bringing the total number to four.
