The Government of Canada has announced a $500 million military aid to Ukraine. This regards military equipment and Senator armored vehicles.
Militarnyi informs about it.
This will significantly increase the aid from Canada for the Ukrainian war against Russia, writes the National Post.
The thing is, Canada has significant bureaucratic hurdles to overcome to be able to supply Ukraine with the necessary weapons.
Ottawa is considered to currently be in the final stages of naming a supplier of armored personnel carriers to send to Ukraine. Roshel is expected to be the winner of the initial contract with its Senator APC armored vehicle.
Senator APC is an armored personnel carrier designed for law enforcement units and border patrols. Senator armored personnel carrier can withstand projectiles of up to 50 mm caliber, has an explosion-proof carcase, as well as a system of protection against chemical and biological attacks.
The newspaper reports that during his conversation with Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, Volodymyr Zelensky asked to provide armored vehicles and fighter jets. With fighter jets, Canada is in no position to help, whereas armored vehicles are available.
In addition to the Senator APC, the Canadian Armed Forces is decommissioning approximately 85 Coyote light armored vehicles (LAVs) and 32 Bison armored ambulances.
Coyote and Bison are armored personnel carriers designed by General Dynamics Land Systems. They can be adapted to different needs.
Bison is used for transportation, as an armored ambulance, command post, maintenance vehicle, etc.
Coyote was produced in three models: “Mast” with a mast surveillance system, a model with a remote observation system, and a basic model of the reconnaissance/command point.
It was previously reported that Australia is sending 20 Bushmaster armored vehicles worth $38M to Ukraine.
