Camouflage nets designed to resemble construction waste, including brick and concrete fragments, have appeared along the Russian-Ukrainian front lines.

Ukrainian military and radio communications expert Serhiy Beskrestnov, known by the call sign Flash, reported on this.
On social media, he posted photos of Russian-made camouflage equipment.

The images show a high level of realism. The nets are suitable for camouflage in urban combat environments, where construction waste such as piles of bricks, concrete fragments, and other building materials are commonly present.

Judging by the published images, the camouflage nets are relatively small but large enough to conceal several Russian soldiers.

One of the photos shows a mortar concealed among ruins using this method. This suggests the nets can also be used to conceal other weapons, particularly vehicles such as ATVs and motorcycles.

To imitate bricks or concrete fragments, polystyrene foam is most likely used, given its availability, light weight, and ease of painting in the required colors.

Reports of Russian forces occasionally using camouflage nets designed to resemble construction waste began appearing on social media in early 2025. Similar cases, however, had been reported earlier.

Amid this, Ukrainian volunteers who support the Defense Forces with handmade camouflage nets said they had received similar requests from the military.

To create their version, imitating the remains of a house made of white brick and clay, the volunteers used polystyrene, foam rubber, and mounting foam, attaching them to a base net with wire and hemp fiber. Various paints were also used.

They said the military responded positively to the net. It proved to be lightweight yet voluminous, which creates some difficulties during transportation.

In urban combat conditions, the ability to conceal positions using various means, including camouflage nets, is critical. However, it remains unclear how effective such nets are against thermal imagers, which are now used not only by infantry units but also by FPV drones capable of immediately striking detected positions.
