European countries have significantly increased the amount of aid to Ukraine, thereby exceeding the aid from the United States.

This was reported by Reuters with reference to the words of Major General Christian Freuding, who coordinates the supply of weapons from Germany.

European NATO countries and Canada have already exceeded the amount of military assistance provided by the United States to Ukraine in 2024 and are able to continue to increase support even in the event of a complete cessation of US aid.

According to Freuding, these countries have provided about 60% of the total amount of Western military support to Ukraine.

He also emphasized that the key factor is political will, which allows for a more rapid response to new challenges and preparing the ground for long-term support.

“If there is political will, then there are resources to largely compensate for American support,” said Major General Christian Freuding.

At the same time, the general acknowledged that some U.S. systems, such as intelligence, surveillance and air defense systems, are difficult to replace in the short term.

While Ukraine continues to receive weapons approved under the Biden administration, future deliveries under President Trump remain uncertain.

“It is unclear how the US government will respond to further requests for military support for Ukraine. We can’t say anything about that,” he added.

Freuding expressed cautious optimism about the possibility of continuing to purchase American weapons for Ukraine through third countries, which would help support the Ukrainian Defense Forces in a changing geopolitical situation.

In his opinion, the lack of necessary assistance could lead to Russia’s ability to rearm and potentially launch a military attack on NATO countries in 2029 if Ukraine is not provided with the necessary amount of weapons and ammunition.

Earlier, Militarnyi reported that 59% of European Union citizens support the allocation of funding for the purchase and supply of weapons to Ukraine.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues to be considered the most important issue at the EU level (27%) out of 15 items, followed by the international situation (24%) and security and defense (20%).
