The German Army has added the first five pre-production Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers to its fleet.

This was reported by the publication Hartpunkt.

Patria Deutschland Managing Director Antti Huuskonen officially handed over the vehicles to the military at the logistics depot in Zeithain earlier this week.

The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Armament (BAAINBw) notes that the army will receive armored personnel carriers in several modifications. Engineering troops and armored reconnaissance units are already preparing the equipment for operation.

These vehicles will also serve as the base platform for the NEMO mortar system.

Countries are purchasing armored vehicles as part of the international CAVS program. The project brings together the efforts of seven countries: Germany, Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Denmark, Great Britain, and Norway.

The new equipment will allow Germany to gradually replace the outdated Fuchs armored vehicles, which the country has been using since the early 1980s.

In the initial stage, factories in Finland and Latvia will manufacture the new vehicles. However, with the start of serial deliveries, Patria will deploy production facilities directly in Germany.

In the future, local enterprises will provide a full cycle of technical maintenance and repair of the equipment.

To implement the project, Patria has formed an industrial group together with KNDS Deutschland, FFG, and JWT. These companies will carry out the bulk of the serial production at the KNDS Deutschland plant in Freisen.

Local authorities are already expanding production and preparing additional sites for infrastructure. The armed forces expect to receive the first German-made armored personnel carriers in 2027.

Earlier, Militarnyi reported that Patria and Germany had signed two contracts under the Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS) program with a total value of over €2 billion. The contracts provide for the purchase of up to 876 Patria 6×6 armored vehicles in four variants.
