The British Army has received the second batch of Swedish Archer artillery systems.
The UK Ministry of Defense’s procurement agency reported on this.
The Archer self-propelled artillery systems were transferred to the British Army from the Swedish Armed Forces under the agreement to support the British Army’s artillery forces.
The transfer of ten additional artillery systems brought the total number of self-propelled artillery systems in the British Army to 14 units.
The procurement of the Archer is part of the UK Ministry of Defense’s program to purchase systems as a temporary solution until the new RCH-155 artillery systems are put into service.
In addition, the UK Ministry of Defense is currently considering the purchase of an additional ten systems.
It is worth noting that these artillery systems are being procured for the British Army through the transfer of systems used by the Swedish Army.
For its part, the Swedish Army will purchase Archer self-propelled artillery systems based on the new RMMV HX2 platform.
Militarnyi previously reported that the UK Ministry of Defense had chosen a replacement for the existing fleet of AS-90 artillery systems.
As part of the logical conclusion of the Mobile Fires Platform program, the department announced that the German RCH155 wheeled artillery system was chosen to replace the existing fleet of self-propelled artillery systems.
The choice of this system was made due to its relatively high level of localization and excellent fire tests, where it demonstrated a high rate of fire, speed of deployment, and abandonment.
The system will be manufactured in Germany and the United Kingdom: the artillery modules and guns will be produced in Germany, and the Boxer base will be produced in the UK.
